About Dan Dan has been a member of Tarrant, Gillies, Richardson & Shems since 2005.  Dan’s practice focuses on civil litigation, administrative hearings, mediation, and appeals.  His clients include municipalities, individuals, and businesses. Dan’s practice includes the following areas:

Prior to joining the firm, Dan served as a law clerk in Chittenden Superior Court to the Hon. Matthew I. Katz and the Hon. Richard W. Norton and by special assignment to the Hon. Geoffrey W. Crawford. Dan currently serves as a small claims court judge with Washington Superior Court and was recently appointed by the Washington County Superior Court to serve as a special master in a matter involving the receivership of an insurance company. He is a member of the Montpelier City Council from District 3.  Dan is a Past-President of the Vermont Bar Association and a Past-President of the Vermont Bar Foundation.  Dan is also the Founder and former-Editor of the SCOV Law Blog, which has summarized every published Vermont Supreme Court decision since July 2010. Dan is a legal commentator for the Dave Gram Show on WDEV and a regular expert on legal issues for WCAX.  Dan has also served as an adjunct professor at Vermont Law School where he taught municipal law.
